I fully agree with whatever he said. For example, he said that blogging allows one to connect with people around the world, keeping in touch with your friends, family and even teachers.
I feel that there are pros and cons about blogging. Pros are already mentioned by Marcus. The cons are that blogging indirectly reveals your personal identification and particulars. This is extremely dangerous as it allows strangers to "track" you down. Also, there would be strangers commenting on your blog posts and you are not exactly sure whothey are. They might have a motive, not just commenting.

Overall, i think that there are more pros than cons on blogging and i feel that blogging is a great platform to express one's feeling and views on a certain case or topic.

Million thanks,
Cleon

Comment on Kuok Kam's blog

Hi all,
I am going to comment on Kuok Kam's recent blog post about emotional blackmail. It was posted on the 17tth of August 2010.
Blog URL: http://www.2a414la.blogspot.com

I agree with Kuok Kam, saying the the use of emotional blackmail by Emily and on Richard is harming Richard instead of helping him. Indeed, emotional blackmail is a great tool to use on someone to make them oblige to whatever you want them to do. Someone will definitely obey orders when they experience emotional blackmail, especially when their loved ones use it on them. I think that Emily thinks that she is using the right method to control her child because she don't know what is love. She has grew up living without a father and a mother and she had never experienced parental love. She thinks that she is showing her love to Richard, but she is not. Instead, she drives him to a corner and gives him no freedom. Therefore, he commited suicide. That is what i think emotional blackmail did to Richard.
Cleon

Comment on Joel's blog

Dear readers and followers,
I am going to comment on Joel's recent blog post about the Swiss Vandal on the SMRT train.
Blog URL: http://www.jneater.blogspot.com/
I agree with Joel's point of view about this particular case. The Judge wanted all Singaporeans to know that we are NOT to vandalise in Singapore, not in restricted areas. This is reasonable. However, i think that another message that the Judge might wanted to put across is that it is definitely wrong to sneek into prohibited area. I feel that this is the more important message and point to put across. Think of it this way. This time, it is just vandalism, where the paint can be washed away easily. What if, next time, it is a terrorist that wants to bomb the train or train station? Lives cannot be taken back if the terrorist actually bomb and kill many innocent lives. This is where the seriousness of the problem lies, on my point of view. Maybe we should look at this case at another angle. Why not punish SMRT and the security guards on duty for not protedting and putting up enough precautions from preventing intruders from intruding into prohibited area? i mean, after all, it is partially the security guard's fault for not patrolling the enclosed area. Do you guys agree with me?
Overall, Joel I agree with Joel's point of looking at this matter.

Thank you
Cleon

Comment on George's blog

Hello,
I will be commenting on George's blog.
Blog URL: http://www.georgeblogging.blogspot.com/
Simplicity is yet again sighted in George's blog. He uses a white background to make it less messy. The white background allows readers to fully concentrate on the blog posts and not get distracted by other background images. George posts mostly about recent current affairs. I think that this is good, as this shows the George is keeping up with the recent global news. His blog can also be used as a platform for reference of the latest news. I am sure that George will continue to update his blog with latest news, also to keep his followers updated. Most of George's post are giving both sides of his opinions and welcoming readers' comments and views. This is encouraged as it would make his blog more "alive" when people comment and participate in online mini-discussions.
Cleon

Comment on Marcus Low's Blog

Hi again people,
I am now commenting on Marcus Low's blog.
Blog URL: http://lowzuowu96.blogspot.com/
I find that the theme is simple yet appealing to the eye. Unlike Qing Zhou's blog, his words and letters are big enough for the comfortable reading of the readers. Marcus Low is a great fan of the YOG and the sport fencing, thus most of his recent posts are on the YOG fencing competition. It makes readers read comfortably. However, i think that the font size of the words should be a little bigger. As i read through his blog posts, the more I read, the more tired my eyes got. In the end, I had to strain my eyes quite a fair bit.
Regarding the posts that he made, i think that some were quite interesting while some were quite useful. Posts that contains quotes from Emily of Emerald Hill is useful as students can refer to his blog as a guide to the quotes. Some interesting posts are "Where is Emerald Hill?" and "Why can't people just show some support for the YOG?". "Where is Emerald Hill?" gives me more general knowledge about the book and play itself. Qing Zhou expresses his feelings and views on "Why can't people just show some support for the YOG?", which is also quite interesting.
Cleon

Current Affairs - School Sports, is it just a game?

Hello again people!

I have participated in the second Current Affairs for Term 3 and played the role of a concerned parent.
The topic of the discussion is: School Sports, Is It Just A Game?
I will be sharing my views on this topic below.
Hope you guys justify what i have to say.
--------------------------

<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> I always ask myself, is it okay to let my child continue with his CCA? Is it safe to for him to continue participating so violently and uncontrollably in soccer? As a parent, my concerns have not been heard, and what is happening and what is going to happen in next training, I am worried.

Why are students working so hard for their sports CCA? “Daddy, I have a competition this weekend and I must clinch the gold medal and live up to my coach’s expectations.” This is what my son tells me whenever he feels stress from the competition weighing on his bare shoulders. Being parents, we are also stressed if our child is neglecting his studies. Is this what schools and coaches are driving at all the time? If that is, I think their driving towards the wrong target of just looking at results than the spirits of sports.

There have been many cases of serious/fatal accidents happening around us. Furthermore, these are accidents involving students, involving school sports.

School sports have been making headlines recently, but not all of them for the right reason.

Recently, a St Joseph's Institution student was hospitalised with head injuries after a judo match.

Last month, a Bedok Town Secondary School student was warded in the intensive care unit after a rugby match amidst allegations of foul play and punching. This shows the lack of sportsmanship.

This follows the death of a 17-year-old polytechnic student last July after he was kicked during a taekwondo tournament. Aren’t these accidents enough to prove that school sports are dangerous and vital? And as a parent, I think that the cause of these accidents is the school tending to fast-track their students without even developing their cognitive skills or their muscles, which leads to unnecessary injuries and accidents. Here is where my concern comes in. What is being taught to my child during his training? Is the coach just straining their physical strength and not teaching them the soft side of sports?

Even as a parent, I know that sports is not all about imparting hard skills to win competitions, to get nation-wide championships, it is about inculcating the soft skills that come with the game. There must be a great deal of respect in a sportsman. And that is what my child and all student sportsmen are lacking in. For example, a soccer player has to help his opponent up when he knock him down by accident. That is respecting his opponent. A soccer player has to be disciplined to take orders from the referee’s final decision. That is respecting the referee and his decisions. For example, Carlos Teves restrained himself from celebrating when he scored his first winning goal against his ex-soccer team. That is a whole amount of respect for his ex-team. That is what Singaporean youth sportsmen are lacking. I am afraid that schools are not doing their jobs and not imparting the right values and attitudes into fellow youth sportsmen and of course, into my child. That is my concern.

I also question about the safety issues both during training and competitions. Are safety measures put into place all the time? So far, I still do not know the training programme that my son is participating in school now. Is he being trained under the correct environment that will groom him up into a professional sportsman? When I say ‘correct environment’, I mean by whether a proper, qualified or experienced coach is present to facilitate the training? We are being kept in the dark about the coach’s background. Firstly, as I understand, not all coaches employed by the school are properly trained. Some are not even registered with the National Registry of Coaches. Also, the current system that craves for medals creates incentives for coaches to chase results, not build character or sportsmanship. This will definitely clinch competition prizes, but more injuries tend to occur. With more injuries sustained, who will share the medical bills for the injured? So my concern here is, is there a system that will not only achieve and strive for results, but also to minimize injuries sustained by athletes?

In conclusion, we concerned parents want to ask a simple favour from schools and coaches. Can we be informed of the training programme in order for us to monitor and witness happenings at training? I am sure that this will satisfy our demands for safety, as we parents’ first priority, and ensure us that our children are handled by the likes of experienced coaches. So that they will end up with the right sets of values, grow up with these values and approaches to sports and to life.

Million Thanks,
Cleon

Understanding A Poem

Hi,
Below are questions that can be asked to further understand a poem.

What is the poem about? (titles usually give hints about this.)
------------------------

Why is the writer writing this poem in the first place?
What is his/her purpose?
Who did the poet think would read the poem?
How does this affect the way the poet wrote the poem?
------------------------

What kind of language does the poet use?
Are there any unusual or special words?
What effect does thee use of words create on you?

------------------------

How does this poem appeal to the senses? If so, which ones?
(there are there usual 5 senses, and an additional 2, which consists of FEELINGS and THOUGHTS.)
How does the poet do this?
------------------------

What emotions are in the poem?
How much emotions is there?
How is it created?
------------------------

What devices are used in the poem? For this question, the keywords are:
Close reference
Discuss
Significance
Death

"Close reference" requires you to provide specific examples and quotes from the play itself.
"Discuss" means that you have to have a 2-sided answer, providing both good and bad points about Richard's Death
"Significance" is how Richard's Death affects the story/characters/themes

Introduction
-Overview / understanding of [Richard]
-Who is [Richard]
-What is [Richard's] status
-How, where, when did [Richard] die
This is a brief introduction of the character mentioned in an essay question, which should take up about 6-8 lines roughly.

Body
The body should consist of about 3 points, each points having explanation, elaboration and examples.

For example, point 1 of this question:
-How did [Richard] die?
-Why did he suicide?
-What led to his death? Problems? Status issue? Expectations? Relationship? Independence? All these must be elaborated further, and of course with close reference to the play, including quotes in your answer.

Then you can proceed to point 2 and 3.

Conclusion
The conclusion would be just a summary of all your points. A link back to the question is required.

Quoting in an essay
There is a specific and recommended way of quoting in an essay. Examples are given to show to right ways of quoting,.

-Richard is "the eldest son of the eldest son", therefore putting him in a very important position in... (correct)
-The line: "eldest son of the eldest son" shows us that... (wrong)

-In society at that time, girls are expected to stay home and be the "devil" of... (correct)
-The word: "devil" tells us that in society at that time... (wrong)

If quotes happen to be on a different paragraph or different page but on the same topic, they can be joined together by a [/] or [...].
Eg: "Blah blah blah / blah blah blah"
or
"Blah blah blah... blah blah blah"
If there is a change in tense in the quote to suit your sentence structure, the change should be enclosed in a square bracket.
Eg: "He was a..."
"He [is] a..." (change from 'was' to 'is')

Hope this helps!
Cleon

Everyone - official song for YOG

Here is the music video for the official song of YOG. No doubt, I am really excited about the YOG. However, there are certain things that i am looking forward to, whilst certain things that i might not want to look forward to. Of course, being a Track and Fielder myself, I am looking forward to the track and field competitions, paying more attention to Pole Vault. I am a Pole Vaulter myself and would dream to become a national pole vaulter. I am also looking forward to soccer and basketball, my favourite ball games. I have great understanding about soccer, and have been following up with recent news about soccer and its players. But not about YOUTH soccer. I am interested to see how the top youths around the world play the game that requires tactics and sportsmanship. Same goes to basket ball.
The things that i am not looking forward to is the opening and closing ceremony of the YOG. Having reading and keeping up with news about YOG, I have not heard any pleasant news about the opening and closing ceremony of YOG. All i have read is that Singapore is not putting enough effort in making the opening ceremony a memorable one. I have overheard from my friends that the opening ceremony is worse than the annual National Day performance! I wish that Singapore would hold an opening ceremony that has the standard of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, being the first country to hold the Youth Olympic Games.

Bye!
Cleon

Emily of Emerald Hill - Usefull Quotes

<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> The number of tests lined up for me had almost killed me. Finally! Its all over, for now, and the March holidays are round the corner! Furthermore, the week before that is the sabbatical week! And for yesterday and today, the whole school had been participating in their e-learning.

To me, there are pros and cons for e-learning.

E-learning, of course, increases one's self confidence and independence. During this period of e-learning, students are not able to rely on teachers and friends and have to complete their work alone. It is something like independent studying. From this, teachers can also spot the stronger student and the weaker ones.

However, i feel that e-learning is a little messy. Some teachers did not give clear instructions on what to do and students might get confused. Also, some teachers use software that are not compatible to some students computer and results in student not able to complete their given tasks. Some of the online facilities that teachers use might crash unexpectedly and will result in all students not able to gain from online lessons. These problems might not be able to solve within a short period of time and thus lessons will be affected.

That is why i still think that going back to school to conduct lesson is still the best scenario, other than me having to wake up early! :)

Cleon

MOE to set up Youth Sports Academies to promote sports excellence

Hi all,
Below is an article regarding the development of Singapore's youth athletes. I will be commenting on it when nearing to the end of this post.

-------------------------------------------------------------

SINGAPORE: The Ministry of Education (MOE) is setting up Youth Sports Academies (YSAs) to provide centralised training for talented athletes at the secondary and junior college/centralised institute levels and promote sports excellence.

The YSAs will enable graduates of the Junior Sports Academies (JSAs), and other students in MOE secondary schools, junior colleges or centralised institute to receive a high level of training in their chosen sport.

The YSAs will complement the Singapore Sports School by providing a developmental pathway for students who are talented in sports but enrolled in regular schools in the system.

For a start, MOE will set up three academies in April, each catering to one sport. The three sports are badminton, wushu and table tennis.

The YSAs will be housed in schools and institutions with facilities or expertise to support the training of these athletes.

The hosts for the first three YSAs are: Bedok South Secondary (badminton), Meridian Junior College (wushu) and MOE’s Co—curricular Activities Branch (table tennis).

There will be three admission points for the YSAs — at Secondary 1, 3 and junior college 1/centralised institute level 1. The MOE said this is to take into consideration students who are "late developers".

For the first year, the YSAs will cater to students in Secondary 1 only. The selection trials will be held in March. The YSA programmes will be conducted after school hours.

In 2008, MOE piloted four JSAs. Another eight new JSAs were set up in 2009. The first batch of 144 JSA athletes completed their two—year training programme at the end of 2009. They are now enrolled in 63 secondary schools, including the Singapore Sports School.
— CNA/ir

------------------------------------------------------------

Personally, I feel that this is a piece of good news to all athletes, be it primary, secondary of junior college. This is a new scheme that the government is trying out. And of course, those of whom are not excelling academically which have a talent for sports will benefit from this scheme the most. I believe that this is also a long term plan, as it takes years of hard work to develop a strong athlete. Also, it is best that an athlete is strong both physically and mentally. Thus, I suppose that Singapore itself will benefit as in future, good athletes will be natured and sent overseas to shine for Singapore. Currently, Singapore is not very well-known for sports. However, I can sense that she is trying her best to develop good sportsmans. Until then, we will continue to excel in many ways.

Cleon

Feeling Sick

Holla again,
Today's school was the worst school day of the year. I AM NOT FEELING WELL!!!!! I think this is due to the late might i had yesterday. I was rushing out my Art Elective Programme (AEP) 3D Studio Max animation till about 1-1.30am. I was DEAD tired. So today i had sore throat, slight fever and worst of all, constipation. That made me waste half an hour of my AEP class! Through this terrible and uncalled for experience, I laernt that the number of sleepng hours per day is extremely important. I recall doing a survey last year about sleeping hours for Hwa Chong boys, and the results are not pleasing. 3/4 of HC boys sleep at around 12 midnight not because of homework, but because of computer games!

Let me share with you these 7 tips on healthy sleeping:
1)Set a conducive sleep environment.

2)Maintain a constant sleeping and wake-up time.

3)Stay away from sleep stealing stimulus.

4)Exercise regularly.

5)Cool off your body temperature.

6)Don't force yourself to sleep.

7)Avoid afternoon naps.

Cleon

Harper Lee

Family Background
Harper Lee was born on April 28, 1926 in Monroeville Alabama.
With three other siblings, she was the youngest to be born to Amasa Coleman Lee and Frances Finch Lee.

Education
She attended Huntingdon College 1944-45, studied law at the University of Alabama 1945-49, and studied one year at Oxford University.

Work
In the 1950s she worked as a reservation clerk with Eastern Air Lines and BOAC in New York City. After deciding to concentrate on her writing, she quitted her jobs. In 1957 Lee submitted the manuscript of her novel to the J. B. Lippincott Company. After being instructed to rewrite it, Lee worked on it for two and a half more years. Finally in 1960, “To Kill a Mockingbird”, her only book, was published. She wrote two articles titled "Love In Other Words" in Vogue and "Christmas To Me" in McCalls.

In June of 1966, Harper Lee was one of two persons named by President Johnson to the National Council of Arts.

Books/Novels written
1960 – To Kill A Mocking Bird
1961 – Love --- In Other Words
1961 – Christmas To Me
1965 – When Children Discover America

How was "To Kill A Mocking Bird" significant to Harper Lee?
-The story depicted her life. The main character, Scout was very much like her as she was also a tomboy when she was young.

-Dill on the other hand was modeled on her childhood friend, Truman Capote. Truman Capote lived next to Harper Lee when she was young too, like in the story. They were also best friends since young

-The fictional Jem was also four years than her in the story as he is in real life.

-She got to witnessed the incident through her father, Amasa Coleman Lee, who was an attorney who tried to protect two innocent black man accused of murder.

-Another reason why the book was so important to her was also because she experienced the racial tension during that time.

-She wanted to use the book as a platform to show how racists the white people were towards the black people.

-She witnessed the death sentence of the innocent black man and was greatly mortified as she knew that the black man was innocent.

Hope you guys absorbed something from this!
Cleon

My first post for my blog....

Hey guys!
This is my very first post. I decided to switch to another blog as I feel that the previous blog was a little too dull and i would also consider it dead.

Changes that I had made to the blog:

1. Theme
I finally learnt how to change and apply themes to the blog! ( I am sure you guys already know how to do that) This theme should be alright i guess, a little messy though.

2. Applications
My previous blog was full of applications and rubbish, totally not related to anything at all. So, this time around, i will keep things simple and not include those apps.

Well i think that should be it. Just comment and tag!

Cleon
